What’s Hot

♻️ The Ellen MacArthur Foundation released a study on Unlocking a reuse revolution: scaling returnable packaging, which models environmental and economic scenarios for reuse models in beverages, personal care, fresh food, and “food cupboard” (shelf-stable food).

The study finds that for certain applications, the “system change” scenario emphasizing standardized packaging and shared infrastructure could reduce GHG emissions and water use by 35 to 70%, and material use by 45 to 75%.

♻️ IGD published a report summarizing findings from Aldi, ASDA, and M&S refill on-the-go pilots in an update to its 2021 research.

To drive reuse/refill adoption, the report recommends highlighting cost savings to shoppers, introducing shelf edge labeling to drive awareness, and using bold and simple calls to action to drive trial.

From the podcast

Shoppers say they value sustainability, but what do they really do?

Data — product and point-of-sale data, especially — can help illuminate how shoppers really behave at retail.

Tanvi Patel is Senior Data Analyst for Climate and Sustainability Data at SPINS, a data technology company.

In this episode, you’ll learn how SPINS is helping retailers and brands build assortments that resonate with shoppers, simplifying the complexity of product certification, invest in circular packaging, and more.
